RichardSolo Custom Case for the iPhone 3G
Last week I was fortunate enough to spend some time with my friend Michael Manna from the T4 Show. In his never ending quest to make sure my geek habit is fed only by Apple, he brought me a few toys for my new iPhone – notably the RichardSolo Custom Case. Having had my iPhone for 3 weeks, I’d already tried three cases, and had been equally unimpressed with all of them (which is why you haven’t heard much from me on the subject until now).
The Custom Case is a hard plastic case that slides over your iPhone in two pieces: top down, bottom up. The idea behind the bottom part sliding is so that you can easily remove just enough of the case to dock your iPhone. Brilliantly simple concept that works amazingly well. I have never had a case that went on and off so easily, while still giving me the peace of mind that comes with keeping a device in a case.
Of course, if you don’t dock your iPhone, you never need to worry about removing the case. In fact, once you put it on, you probably won’t want to. I tend to forget it’s on, and wonder why I can’t seat my iPhone in the dock. Sometimes it’s not until stabbing at the dock two or three times that I remember there’s a case there.
You see, the RichardSolo Custom Case is just that thin. I like keeping my phone in a case. I especially like keeping my iPhone in a case – it’s just too slippery without one, and I know I’ll wind up dropping it if I don’t keep a grip on it. This case gives you enough grip to feel secure, without adding enough bulk to remind you there’s a case there.
As you can see from the photos, this slim case comes up over the silver bevel, but not enough to impede gestures/swipes across the screen. It’s high enough so that if you should drop the phone, it will land on the case, and not the screen. No more, no less. Of course, due to the design of the case, it’s not likely to fly off on impact either. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve dropped a Treo over the years, only to have the hard case fly off due to the clamshell design.
Basic black, this is a classic style for men and women both. Because the hard plastic is so thin, it is still easy to access the volume rocker and mute button on the side through the cut out, as well as the headset jack and off button at the top.
You can buy the RichardSolo custom case from their website for only $24.95. If you’re still looking for a little something to offer protection without taking away from the basic beauty of your iPhone, this is definitely what you want.
