Really FLIP for your iPhone

Perusing the forums on The iPhone Blog this afternoon, I came across a thread where ebattalion.com offered a free promo code for their new game Flip. Not to be one to turn away from anything free, I snatched up the 2nd of six available codes and installed Flip.

I have never been much of a game player, and in all the years I’ve owned a handheld, the only game I return to religiously is Astraware’s Bejeweled. So I wasn’t really expecting that much. I was more than pleasantly surprised!

The object of the game is to line up colored “gems” and keep the playing field clear. As you move up a level, you have to line up more and more gems. You start with three in a row, and before you know it, you have to get eight of them together!

Hand eye coordination plays a big role in this game. You hang on for dear life and tilt from side to side to make sure the gem goes down in the row you want. You can tap the screen to make the gem drop faster. But be careful you don’t tilt too far, or you’ll make all the gems topple into a new arrangement in landscape mode! Of course, this can be a strategic move if you plan carefully. (I don’t know if I’ll ever be good enough to do that!)

Flip has a soundtrack that keeps you moving along with the gems. You can turn off Flip’s music if you want – but it does go with the suspense of watching the gems drop!

I have not tried the “think puzzles” or “speed puzzles” yet. But then I never played anything but “classic” on Bejewled. With 200 unique puzzles and an infinite play mode, I think Flip will keep me entertained for a good long while. Only $.99, you can find it in the app store.
