Game Review: Spirit

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  Android, games, iOS, iPad, Nexus, Note, review, spirit, Tab, tablet    Posted date:  December 29, 2012  |  No comment

It's not often I get excited about a game. As most of you know, I've been happily playing Bejeweled since the 90's. But I recently saw my husband playing a game on his 10.1" Samsung Galaxy Note tablet that had me thinking "that looks like fun!" Have a look for yourself. I immediately had to see if this game was available for iOS as well, and to my delight it was! I quickly spent my $.99, and loaded it to my new iPad mini. And holy cow! It is as much fun to play as it looks - and that's coming from a total non-gamer! As you can see from the video above, instead of shooting at your attackers,...

Tablet Claw – tablet holder review

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  holder, iPad, tablet    Posted date:  August 9, 2012  |  One Comment

Back at CTIA, I had the pleasure of looking at a new product, the Tablet Claw.  Of course, a perfunctory look at a gadget on someone else's tablet is not the same as getting to spend some time with it on your own. So I was pleased to finally get a chance to get my hands on one for a review. The Tablet Claw is designed to fit 10" tablets. It works with iPads, ASUS EE Transformer, Samsung Galaxy and the 7 in. Kindle Fire. As you can see from the photos, I used it with the iPad 2. It comes with an extra set of thin rubber inserts so that you can also use it on the slightly thicker 1st or 3rd generation...

Tagy Widgets – Android App Review

Posted by: Diana M. McDonough    Tags:  Android, app, Google, phone, Play Store, review, tablet    Posted date:  July 22, 2012  |  No comment

Do you run out of real estate on your home screen for icons? Do you wish you had a way to have an icon-free interface? Tagy Widgets is the answer! If you are anything like me, you like to be able to get to your most commonly used applications in as few moves as possible. In the past, I’ve resorted to folders, folder-like widgets and widgets that “shrink” icons to do this. None of them have suited me like Tagy. Tagy presents your apps, contacts, settings or bookmarks in "clouds". You can add as many items to a widget as you desire, and can put multiple widgets on your home screen (you...

Stylus Handpad – Accessory Review

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessory, pad, review, stylus, tablet, touch screen    Posted date:  June 11, 2012  |  3 Comments

I love playing Draw Something on my iPad. I love using my iPad to take notes using Notability. But I've never been crazy about the awkward angle I have to hold my wrist so that I don't leave marks on what I'm drawing. This is even a problem when using Notability's wrist guard. People have the same issue regardless of their tablet choice. Wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have to worry about putting your whole hand down while writing or drawing? With the Stylus Handpad, you can. It's such a simple thing, you'll wonder why nobody thought of it before. It's basically a piece of suede that sits...

Tech21 – Impactology

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, cases, cellphone, CTIA, protection, tablet    Posted date:  May 16, 2012  |  One Comment

I received many emails leading up to this year's CTIA. None piqued my interest so much as the one promising the CEO would be bringing his "industrial drop test machine." So I went to the Tech21 website to see what this could be about, and found this really cool video. You can check it out for yourself later, but the gist is, they wrap this guy's hand in this orange goop and bash it with a hammer - and he doesn't feel a thing. Are you as intrigued as I was? What makes Impactology™ unique is the secret ingredient D30® Impact Fabric used within our designs. It's composed of a non-Newtonian...

As phones get larger, holding them with one hand securely is becoming a bigger problem.  The Flygrip offers a secure solution for holding your phone or tablet with one hand. In addition to offering custom printing (as mentioned in the video), they can also do integrated artwork:

Allsop extends their line of sticky stuff

Posted by: Diana M. McDonough    Tags:  accessories, car mounts, CTIA, phones, tablet    Posted date:  May 9, 2012  |  No comment

A while back, I wrote a review of a Clingo car mount. At CTIA, I met with Allsop's marketing manager, Kelli Veening, and she showed me some of the new products they are unveiling.      In addition to some new tablet stands, they now have a tablet brand-agnostic blue tooth keyboard case which uses their incredibly sticky gel to secure any 10" tablet to the hard plastic back.  The back secures to the keyboard (which is also encased in a sturdy plastic shell) via several small magnets, creating a total sleek and protective unit.  Because the tablet sleek us actually a separate unit from...

Tablet Claw for easy tablet management

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessory, CTIA, iPad, tablet    Posted date:  May 9, 2012  |  2 Comments

If you've ever found yourself mobile with your tablet, you know how easy it is to drop. Having a way to grip your 10" tablet can be a lifesaver - or at least a money saver. The Tablet Claw is the means to this end. Made for any tablet (it can even work with the Kindle Fire), the Tablet Claw attaches to the frame of your tablet and gives you a convenient handle on the back so that you can swivel from portrait to landscape, or have a stand when you choose to put your tablet down. You can buy the Tablet Claw for $39.99.

A Tale of Two Styli

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  capacitive touch, etsy, iPad, stylus, tablet    Posted date:  March 3, 2012  |  2 Comments

Several weeks ago, Shelley from 2Do (catch Convertcast episode 77) recommended a stylus she'd found on Etsy. Shelly had settled on the Stylus Socks because the Jot that I had recommended to her wouldn't ship to Canada. (Big mistake by Adonit, but their loss is our gain.) So off I went to Etsy to have a look at the Stylus Socks Pro. Shelley really liked hers, and had ordered two from the start, so I figured for $12, it couldn't hurt. As with all my online orders, I anxiously tracked its shipment from the Netherlands to my front door. When it finally arrived, I gave it a cursory look, and put it down...
