PhotoSync for iOS

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  iOS, iOS 5, iPad, iPhone, itunes, photos, PhotoSync, pictures, sync, video, wireless    Posted date:  August 2, 2011  |  No comment

Every night before going to bed, I place my iPhone on the charger and watch the little sync icon come alive. Yes, iOS 5 will sync your iPhone or iPad to your computer without wires, and without any user input. It's all automatic. I have not plugged my iPhone into my Mac in several weeks now, and it's an easy thing to get used to. And then I needed a photo I'd taken with my iPhone camera. Surely I didn't have to plug my iPhone into my Mac just to transfer the photo? So I emailed it to myself. But there had to be a better way since you can't actually retrieve photos from your iTunes backup/sync. A...

SafeSync

Sync what? That was the question I asked as I approached the reps at the Trend Micro booth. We all know the name - they’re the people who keep us virus-free. (They are now boasting anti-virus software for your hand-held devices, but that’s another story for another time.) SafeSync is their newest offering, and I think it’s exciting. I know a lot of people who use DropBox for their backup and instant access to files on the go, but there’s just something about it that has always bothered me. The thing I dislike most is the fact that it requires you create additional folders, and copies...

Senuti Rescues Your Music

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  Apple, iPad, iPhone, ipod, itunes, mac, music, sync, videos    Posted date:  January 2, 2011  |  No comment

As those of you who follow me on Twitter know, I recently got both a Mac and stuck in New Jersey for a week. Since I hadn't expected the latter, I was getting impatient about transferring my music (all 8 GB of it!) to my Mac so I could start syncing it to my iPhone. While I've frequently seen the question asked in forums, I'd never really paid attention. How can you copy your music back to your computer from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod? Yes, the best way is still to have a backup and just copy it to the new computer. I had a backup - but it was on a network server that would have required days...

NoteMaster for iPhone

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  documents, evernote, Google, iPhone, notes, sync    Posted date:  September 3, 2009  |  11 Comments

I thought Awesome Notes was, well, awesome. Then I heard about NoteMaster. It looked like it might be similar to Awesome Notes, so I emailed the nice people at Kabuki vision and requested a promo code. They were kind enough to supply one, so I'm passing on my findings. The very first thing I discovered was that NoteMaster syncs with Google Docs, whereas Awesome Notes backs up there. Syncing is far preferable. I open up NoteMaster, hit the familiar sync icon, and any changes I made to my documents in NoteMaster are instantly applied to the document on Google, and any changes I (or someone with...

Dude – what happened?

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  active sync, iPhone, Palm, Pre, sync, windows mobile    Posted date:  August 11, 2009  |  2 Comments

Derek Simmerman told us last week about how much he loved his new Palm Pre. Since he was with us, he returned his 3rd Pre and decided to take a chance on something else due to too many hardware issues. What influences us in our mobile carrier choices today? Do we chose a carrier based on price? Coverage? Device? What I miss about WM/ iPhone Counter Point What I don't miss about WM Informational Lock Screen (aka S2U2, WM6.5)(You miss the application that does this? There's an iPhone app that does this too. We could have a whole separate list just for apps.) Full Featured (timed) Trial applications...

Awesome Notes

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  Google, iPhone, memos, notes, Palm, sync    Posted date:  July 31, 2009  |  10 Comments

I bought another iPhone app last night. It appears that I am now playing a speculation game, because like I did with Agendus, I bought it more for what it will be able to do, than what it does now. Allow me to explain. Awesome Notes, at $3.99 from the iTunes store, is definitely not cheap by iPhone app standards. It's a beautiful little notes/memos replacement, though, and reminds me a lot of Treo Memo (Palm os) from Gx5. Awesome Notes provides a variety of backgrounds for your notes, as well as a number of fonts/sizes.   As you can see, you can choose backgrounds that go with the note....

eWallet on iPhone

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  eWallet, Illium, iPhone, password, security, sync    Posted date:  May 24, 2009  |  2 Comments

I know there are things I cannot do on the iPhone that I could on Windows Mobile or Palm, and I accepted that before making the decision to [finally] get an iPhone. Then there are those things that I consider essential, which can be done on the iPhone, but done so differently that it’s both good and bad at the same time.   I have made it through the first 3 weeks of iPhownership without a password/security app. It’s left me high and dry a few times, so I decided I really couldn’t wait any longer. Since I used eWallet on my Palms (both Palm Garnet and WM), and have the desktop version,...

Dumping Outlook – Returning to the Palm Desktop

This has been my goal since the day I first started seriously toying with the notion of switching to a WinPho. I have always admitted to hating Outlook, even though I really can’t explain why. I prefer my email viewed in Mozilla Thunderbird. Thunderbird actually gives me far more control over the layout. I liked using the Palm Desktop for my contacts and calendar: more precisely, I preferred using Agendus. Iambic offers an Outlook version of Agendus, but it’s still just Outlook with a pretty wrapper.   So what changed? As most of you know, my love of Agendus was so great, that about...
