The Life360 Family Locator app, which lets families keep track of each other's locations, could be your next must-have utility app – whether you have kids or not. In fact, Life360 recently announced a Series A funding round with Bill Ford of Ford Motor Company as an investor. Life360 is also talking to home security firms about...

A recent study by Elcomsoft questioned whether sixteen popular password keepers live up to their claimed levels of protection.  The article uses many terms familiar to security experts but not to everyday users. At Ascendo, we received many emails from concerned customers. This article attempts to demystify some of the concepts discussed in the study to help non-security experts make informed decisions about password managers. A basic feature of most password managers is data encryption using ciphers such as AES and Blowfish. A cipher is simply a mathematical formula which uses a string of characters...

Lookout Security for Android

Posted by: Diana M. McDonough    Tags:  Android, backup, CTIA, data, phone location, security    Posted date:  May 9, 2012  |  No comment

Although I tend to be careful about what I download to my device, with the news about the rise of viruses in the Google Play store, I decided to look for an anti-virus solution for my phone.  What I found was Lookout Security, which is that and so much more.  For those of you who listen to the ConvertCast, you will remember that my pick of the week on May 6th was Plan B, which was created by the engineers at Lookout Mobile Security. I met with Michelle Masek at Mobile Focus, who was thrilled to hear that Plan B was my choice. While Plan B is a reactive solution meant for those people who think...

While perusing my favorite forums the other day, I noticed that Ascendo had a new version of Data Vault out for the iPhone. I had never heard of Ascendo, so I went straight to the source. I have always used programs like Data Vault, from Splash ID to eWallet, so I was anxious to compare. The nice people at Ascendo were happy to oblige, and gave me review codes for both the iPhone and Windows desktop versions. I have to point out from the start, Ascendo Data Vault advertised a feature I haven’t seen anywhere else. This is not to say it doesn’t exist – just that I haven’t seen it - and that...

eWallet on iPhone

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  eWallet, Illium, iPhone, password, security, sync    Posted date:  May 24, 2009  |  2 Comments

I know there are things I cannot do on the iPhone that I could on Windows Mobile or Palm, and I accepted that before making the decision to [finally] get an iPhone. Since I used eWallet on my Palms (both Palm Garnet and WM), and have the desktop version,...
