LifeProof iPhone Case

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, Apple, cases, dirt proof, iPhone, protection, screen protector, shock proof, water proof, waterproof    Posted date:  December 3, 2011  |  8 Comments

I kept seeing people in forums talk about the LifeProof case, and how much better it was than the Otterbox. What I hadn't seen, was a decent review on the LifeProof case. Hopefully, I'll be able to answer all the questions for you right now. I'm going to start with the obligatory comparison to the Otterbox. As most of us know, the two best known Otterbox cases are the Defender and the Commuter. The Defender is BIG. It makes your slender iPhone bulky. It never occurred to me to use one just for this reason. The Commuter, on the other hand, does not add considerable bulk, and with the available...

DryCase

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, Android, camera, CTIA, DryCase, gadget, iPhone, Kin, protection, water, Windows Phone    Posted date:  April 30, 2011  |  No comment

Back in March at CTIA, I discovered the DryCase. I shared their little demo with you here on JAGS. It was voted amongst the top 25 in the Last Gadget Standing, and was amongst my top two of show. But seeing a trade show demo, is never quite the same as DIY. So the nice people at DryCase sent me the small model to play with. When you play, you should play with children, so I enlisted the help of my nephew. Of course, it didn't hurt that he has a Kin, and I was far more willing to throw the Kin in a tub of water than my iPhone. They DryCase is as cool as it seemed from a distance, and I'm really...

One of my last appointments at the 2011 CTIA was with BodyGuardz. No longer just screen protectors, they have an assortment of cases and bumpers (siders) in colours for every taste, and a new carbon fibre skin for the back/sides of your device that makes it look awesome! Take a look at these videos, as we get a product walkthrough, and then see a) a perfectly good phone take a beating with an electric sander, and b) how simple it is for someone (other than me!) to install a skin. Enjoy! Product walkthrough: Installation of carbon fibre back: Last step - putting on the sides:

ZOMM – the World’s First Wireless Leash

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, bluetooth, cellphone, CTIA, protection    Posted date:  March 23, 2011  |  No comment

It's a pity this wasn't around a few months back when my daughter's iPhone was stolen. But what a clever gadget it is! Not only does it pair with any Bluetooth enabled phone, it acts as a hands-free speakerphone. Two products for the price of one. There's an app coming, first for Android, and then iPhone, which will give you even more options as to how to use your ZOMM. Priced between $79-$99, I'd say it's reasonable. And did I mention there's a model that's totally blinged out? Can you say "Swarovski crystals?" Woot! Take a look at the video, and let us know what you think.

CleverWraps

An aptly named product, CleverWraps is more than a sealable ziplock bag. These are protective sleeves for any gadget you own. They allow you to keep whatever the gadge, totally functional. When I finished recording the video you'll see below, she took my little Flip cam, and snugged it away in a CleverWrap. It's now safe to return to Mobile - rainiest city in the US! The phone version comes 5 to a pack for $9.99, while the tablet and e-reader versions come 3 to a pack for $14.99. No matter what you've got, if you want to keep it dry or clean, seal it in a CleverWrap.

Otterbox Ultimate Protection

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, cases, Commuter, CTIA, Defender, Otterbox, protection    Posted date:  March 23, 2011  |  No comment

I have been a big fan of the Otterbox line since my Treo days. They are stylish and offer great protection in a great range of products. Best example is the Otterbox protecting the brand new Samsung Galaxy S belong to H.L. Flowers (only related by marriage). H.L. works in the shipbuilding industry and can quite frequently be found 10, 20, 30 feet (or more) up off the deck of the ship, installing radio equipment in the mast. So when he purchased the Galaxy S (at my instigation), I encouraged him to get the Otterbox Defender case. Good thing I did and he did, because the first week of ownership,...

Shield Skins Screen Protection

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  icolor wrap, Invisibleshield, iPhone, protection, screen protector, shield, Shield Skins    Posted date:  January 16, 2011  |  One Comment

We all know that I am the world's worst when it comes to installing screen protectors. I admit it. So when Ryan from Shield Skins emailed me and asked if I'd like to try theirs, I thought - why not?! It's been a while since I tried a screen cover that had a liquid application, and I must admit they do make me nervous. I'm always afraid that if I use enough solution to actually apply the shield properly that I will also trigger the water sensor. But I figured that the worst that could realistically happen would be that I'd have yet another poorly installed screen protector that I'd either...

Phantom Skinz iPhone 4 Protection

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  iPhone, iPhone 4, Phantom Skinz, protection, screen cover, shield    Posted date:  July 2, 2010  |  2 Comments

Video is not typically my thing, but I thought this might be worth the attempt. I ordered an iPhone 4 Clear Full Body Phantom Skinz, sale price $17.46.The kit includes two sets of skins, which came as a surprise to me. I’ve always used Zagg’s Invisible Shield in the past, and was not happy with the last one I used. The Phantom Skinz seems thinner and less gloppy (for lack of a better word). I always struggled applying the film, and this time (as you’ll see) was really no different. I think better lighting would have helped me enormously. Unfortunately, applying this type of film will always...

Module for a Better Grip on your iPhone

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, cases, Dachaworks, ergonomic, iPhone, Module, protection    Posted date:  March 6, 2010  |  2 Comments

I'm a one-handed iPhone user. It took me longer than most people to get used to the iPhone's keyboard because I want to hold it on my right hand and type only with my right thumb. I always figured that was the point of having a very small device. I don't mind using two hands for my laptop or my Nikon, but I want one-handed simplicity for my cell phone. We all know I love my iPhone. But I don't love the cramped hand after reading an e-book. And I hate the gymnastics if I try to take a picture with one hand because it's difficult to balance, aim, and still hit the right spot to take the photo....

Zagg Custom Skin

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  custom, iPhone, protection, protector, screen, skin, Zagg    Posted date:  January 18, 2010  |  2 Comments

When I first got my iPhone back in April of '09, I couldn't decide whether or not to put a screen protector on or not. I eventually decided to try it, and when someone gave me a Zagg screen protector, I eagerly installed it. I'd used Zagg skins for years on my Palm Treos and Centro, although I had some problems when I tried installing one on my Treo 800w. Long story short...I didn't like the way it fit on the back of my iPhone, and it was just too thick on the front to be useful. When I got my 3GS in July, I didn't even bother. One of the reasons I had trouble putting the skin on the back of my iPhone...
