Review: Workflowy – the best outliner for web and iOS

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  apps, iOS, iPad, iPhone, lists, notes, outlines, review    Posted date:  March 31, 2013  |  No comment

While neither Google Docs nor Evernote are a full-featured outlining applications, it is possible to create outlines with them. However, outlines are better handled in specialised outliners. Recently David Winer, with Kyle Shank, formed LLC in Delaware and released their first product - web based outliner LittleOutliner (made with HTML5 technology). Although it's not bad, (has text formatting, no need to log-in), it is just a first effort (no sync between computers, saving just locally, no support for mobile devices). While I was looking at comments about this new hobby of David Winer, I noticed...

ZoomNotes App Review

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  apps, iOS, iPad, notes, stylus, ZoomNotes    Posted date:  February 2, 2013  |  No comment

I love using my iPad for taking notes. I started with Penultimate. It was..ok. It's obvious to me that the people who believe that Penultimate is anything other than penultimate, have never tried any other note taking apps. I quickly left Penultimate when I discovered Notability and CaptureNotes 2. I've gone back and forth between those two for the last year - they each have completely different strengths, so it's been a tough call. Now I've met ZoomNotes, and it was love at first sight. This app is a beast! If you can think of a feature you would want in a notes app, (like the commercial says),...

App Review *Beesy* – Time Management for iPad

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  apps, calendar, notes, productivity, review, tasks, time management    Posted date:  May 22, 2012  |  No comment

Like many people today, I live by my calendar. Being the OCD Control Freak that I am, I sometimes wake in the middle of the night, worried that I forgot to do something, call someone, go somewhere. If you know the feeling, read on. After a recent comment on an old blog post about a notes app, I started looking at Beesy, which is primarily a project management app. (I would not use it just for notes.) It seemed really full featured, and I wondered if I could use it as my calendar. Before I go any farther, I will say that as it stands now, Beesy cannot replace my calendar. The primary reason...

Handwrite Notes for Windows Phone

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  app review, digitizer pen, handwriting, notes, Windows Phone    Posted date:  May 9, 2012  |  No comment

Pen computing is not dead, it was just in hibernation because Steve Jobs hated styluses (styli?) and promoted multi-touch screens without support for digitizer pen. But watch out, boys and girls! In the near future (last quarter of 2012) several Windows 8 powered touch tablet are coming and they will be both affordable (because powered by ARM processors so much cheaper than Tablet PC of old times) and supporting both multi-touch and (high precision) digitiser pen. In the meantime, to get a feel what to expect from Windows 8 touch tablets, we can take a look at Windows Phone 7.5 apps! Here...

abcNotes

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  notes, productivity    Posted date:  March 9, 2011  |  No comment

abcNotes is another app in a large collection of similar iPhone/iPad apps. With a universal binary, you can use abcNotes on both your iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad. Beautifully designed, I have no doubt that this app looks great on the large screen of the iPad. It is, however, a bit cramped on the smaller iPhone screen. abcNotes' hook is that it offers you multiple "desktops" on which to place your sticky notes. The desktops are customizable. You can use a variety of preset backgrounds, or import your own photos. Each note can be a different colour, and you can set the font and size. The notes...

NoteMaster for iPhone

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  documents, evernote, Google, iPhone, notes, sync    Posted date:  September 3, 2009  |  11 Comments

I thought Awesome Notes was, well, awesome. Then I heard about NoteMaster. It looked like it might be similar to Awesome Notes, so I emailed the nice people at Kabuki vision and requested a promo code. They were kind enough to supply one, so I'm passing on my findings. The very first thing I discovered was that NoteMaster syncs with Google Docs, whereas Awesome Notes backs up there. Syncing is far preferable. I open up NoteMaster, hit the familiar sync icon, and any changes I made to my documents in NoteMaster are instantly applied to the document on Google, and any changes I (or someone with...

Awesome Notes

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  Google, iPhone, memos, notes, Palm, sync    Posted date:  July 31, 2009  |  10 Comments

I bought another iPhone app last night. It appears that I am now playing a speculation game, because like I did with Agendus, I bought it more for what it will be able to do, than what it does now. Allow me to explain. Awesome Notes, at $3.99 from the iTunes store, is definitely not cheap by iPhone app standards. It's a beautiful little notes/memos replacement, though, and reminds me a lot of Treo Memo (Palm os) from Gx5. Awesome Notes provides a variety of backgrounds for your notes, as well as a number of fonts/sizes.   As you can see, you can choose backgrounds that go with the note....
