Review: AirPhones – app for streaming audio from PC/Mac to iPad/iPhone

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  airphone, apps, iOS, iPad, iPhone, mac, pc streaming, review, Windows    Posted date:  March 23, 2013  |  No comment

I am reviewing this app just because I love it. From time to time I would search for apps that would enable me to stream audio from my PC to my iPad, but all I could find were apps that played media (like video/audio files) remotely. What I needed, however, was playback of system sound - whatever it is at given moment - on my iPad. In other words I needed an app that would send any audio that is played on my PC to my iPad. And after a long search I have found it - it's called "AirPhones" - an iPhone app (that also works on iPad) and that requires server side on PC or Mac. You might think: why the heck...

Review: Windows 8 for iPad

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  app, Apple, emulate, iPad, mac, Microsoft, OS X, PC, streaming, Windows 8    Posted date:  March 2, 2013  |  No comment

Yes, Windows 8 works on iPad, including multi touch gestures. After getting the app (see link at the end of this review) and after installing streamer software on Windows 8, your iPad discovers Windows 8 and you can start. Of course, you need to enter secret security code to start. Here is the control bar and how it works. While mostly you will use the on–screen keyboard of Windows 8 for text entry, sometimes you will prefer the iOS-side keyboard. What you get is full Windows 8 touch experience, including multi touch and various edge gestures. You can also try the Windows...

Imagine leaving home. You're going to be gone a few weeks, a few months, or perhaps this is a permanent move. Now imagine being able to continue reading your hometown paper, no matter where you are. PressReader offers you the full newspaper experience on your tablet (and across multiple platforms). PressReader provides access to over 2,200 full-content newspapers and magazines from 97 countries in 54 languages. While my current local paper is not included, I found the newspapers from the last 4 cities I lived in the US, and all those from out of the US. Do you enjoy reading newspapers...

Initially I thought that this app is only about Mac computers but no, it's about iOS devices and in fact, about all devices and (some) software of Apple too! (more...)

Smartphone War 3 : Revenge of the Fallen

We are now on the verge of the 3rd major phase of smartphone wars. Episode 3 if you like, or as I like to call it, Smartphone War 3. Let's take a short look back and let's predict what will be going on in smartphones in the next few years - after all how well one can predict is a primary measure of intelligence. Smartphone War 1 Before Smartphone War 1 started, Nokia-controlled Symbian (a mobile OS that originated from British EPOC mobile OS for PDAs) had the dominant market share. And as you can see from this graph, Microsoft's mobile operating system had a comfortable second or third...

ArtRage: Serious Artists Only

Posted by: David Shulman    Tags:  art, Artrage, design, draw, iPad, mac, paint, painting, textures    Posted date:  July 27, 2011  |  No comment

As a somewhat serious artist, I was excited when I was offered a promo code for ArtRage on my Mac. But it didn't take me long to realize that with only a MacBook, I couldn't get the kind of control I needed. ArtRage needs a mouse, or some kind of input device other than the trackpad found on a Mac. But my interest in working with this app was on high alert, so I headed over to iTunes, and bought it for my iPad. And wow! The iPad's screen gives you the kind of control that you miss on a trackpad, and being able to zoom and scroll gives you the detail necessary - cause this is serious art, not just...

PureBeats In-Ear Headset

I was recently asked to take a look at the new PureBeats in-ear headset from PureGear. Not being one to turn down an accessory, I readily agreed. They are advertised as being a low cost alternative to DiddyBeats, and while the suggested retail price is $49.99, I have seen them online for as low as $14.94 at getyourtech.com. But whether you buy at the high end or the low end, if you want a great in-ear experience, the PureBeats can't be beat. When I first opened the box and removed the PureBeats, I was surprised at the flat cord. I knew the plastic coating was to help keep them tangle-free,...
