Kioky – The Rise and Fall

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  applicator, iPhone 4, kickstarter, kioky, screen protector    Posted date:  September 17, 2011  |  One Comment

About a year ago, I discovered Kickstarter. Ok, so I didn't exactly discover it in the way Columbus discovered America, but it was new to me. And the reason I came across it was because of a startup company called Kioky. Strange name. You can read all about their Kickstarter program here, but they're pas that now, and into production. I thought their product sounded pretty ingenious - a frame to hold a screen protector, so that all you had to do was drop your phone in, screen first, and everything would line up. Those of you who have followed me for a while, know that this is the very thing I've...

If you are the type who likes good looking, well designed, well thought out products then Twelve South is one of those companies you should be paying attention to. The BookBook, if you haven't heard of it yet, is a series of Apple focused laptop and tablet cases that are outwardly designed to look and feel like vintage leather-bound books. The BookBook for iPhone 4 is Twelve South's latest addition to the BookBook line, further extending their reach into Apple's mobile product lineup. Reading their website it looks to be as elegant and functional as the rest. Complete with money, identification...

Mod 4 Camera-Style Case for iPhone 4

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, camera, case, Dacha Works, iPhone 4    Posted date:  June 13, 2011  |  No comment

Some time back, I took a look at the Module case from Dacha Works. So I've been looking forward to their next release. As much as I loved the unique waves of the Module case, I must confess, I just don't get the Mod 4. The Mod 4 package boasts that it "Brings the unique look and perfect handling of classing rangefinder cameras to the unmatched iPhone 4." And I sorta almost get that. With the Mod 4 case on, your iPhone looks like an ordinary camera from the back. It's clever. But it's also confusing, because the back of the camera (the part with the viewfinder) is the part you hold towards...

Proporta Soft Feel Silicone Case

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, Apple, cases, iPhone 4, Proporta    Posted date:  August 21, 2010  |  No comment

Another silicone case, this one $28.95 from Proporta. I did a review of Proporta’s SteriTouch silicone case for the iPhone 3G(S) a while back, and Proporta has updated this case for the iPhone 4. Unlike the typical silicone cases which are monochrome, this one is black on the outside and pink on the inside. It’s also offered in black/green and black/grey. A nice ribbed texture on the sides insures your phone will not slip from your grasp. The back has some matching ribbing that gracefully flows from the sides, and a few other nice touches to make sure you’re always in control. The sides...

Proporta Shine case for iPhone 4

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, Apple, cases, iPhone 4, Proporta    Posted date:  August 7, 2010  |  One Comment

Some time back, I wrote a review on Proporta’s Shine case for the iPhone 3G/3GS – beautiful girlie case. Now I’m back to look at the new Shine case for the iPhone 4. Updated slightly, the design now has a band to keep the case closed (or open), and is available in three colours: black, red, and blue for $36.95. Proporta sent me a red Shine case to review, and I must say the patent leather looks even better in red than the old Shine case in black. Even better news, it is not the fingerprint magnet that you might expect. As a fashion statement, this truly Shines. The new design with the band...

State Your Case

Convertcast Episode 48 July 19, 2010 And yes, we can mention "antennagate" since we're going to discuss cases. I did speak to an RF engineer, who suggested the only way to fix the current problem would be to put the antenna back on the inside. Form vs. function. Case offer from Apple - Bumper? Rebate (bumper owners), or 3rd party Apple offering? How many cases do you already have in your possession? How many do you have on order? Screen cover/shield? Parent update! Both are getting Evos...which required a dissertation on the difference between 3G/EVDO and WiFi. Things we take for granted. App...

You Get What You Pay For?

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, Apple, cases, cheap, ebay, inexpensive, iPhone 4    Posted date:  July 15, 2010  |  One Comment

People keep telling me “you get what you pay for,” so I decided to put that theory to the test by ordering (blind) some very inexpensive cases on ebay. I’m currently in possession of three cases, one from Singapore, and two from Hong Kong. The case from Singapore proves the old saying true. It is a flimsy piece of rubber with visible seams. It fits poorly, and just feels cheap. It cost $2.97. There was no shipping charge. The two cases from Hong Kong, on the other hand, are startling exceptions. They are both that semi-rigid material that allows a good tight fit. The only complaint I have...

Rocketfish Soft Gel Fitted Case

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, Apple, cases, iPhone 4, rocketfish    Posted date:  July 14, 2010  |  5 Comments

I couldn’t stand waiting any longer, so yesterday I stopped into Best Buy to see what they had in the way of cases for my new iPhone 4. The short answer, not much. Out of the four cases they had in stock, one I flat out disliked, one was identical to another one I have on order, and the third of the four was just a boring skin. So I went with the fourth case, the Soft Gel Fitted case from Rocketfish, a brand whose name I’m familiar with, but have never before tried. Best Buy had the Soft Gel Fitted case in a variety of colours, but I went with the pink, just for a change of pace. I loved how it looked...
