Tip Tap Tones for Windows-Phone

If there is a foreign language worth learning, then it must be Mandarin - the language spoken in mainland China and Taiwan. In recent years China has overtaken Japan and Germany, and is now the second largest economy of the world. And according to many analysts, in 10 years it will also overtake the USA. Here I am reviewing an app that helps you to teach yourself Mandarin language pronunciation. What is particular about this app is: it is made by Microsoft Research - a division of Microsoft that is working on products that are usually not directly commercialised (this app is free too). While...

iTunes U

Why iPhone is the best smartphone in the world? Not just because of some third party apps that are not available for other platforms, but because of Apple's own apps and services unavailable for other platforms never ever forever. Here I am reviewing iTunes U. This can help self-learn just about anything - and that is not available for other smartphone platforms. And never will be. Recently, Apple decoupled some apps. For example, "Newstand" is now a separate app. Similarly, iTunes U was previously a part of standard iTunes for iOS, but now it is a separate iBooks-like app. There is "book...

Chopsticks Culture

Chopsticks Culture is a new educational iPhone app. Its focus is Chinese cuisine, and the language that surrounds it. The concept is great: photos of authentic dishes, and their names in both Mandarin and Cantonese. You get a transliteration, the Chinese spelling, and audio. Of course, you also get photos of each dish along with its name. There are four categories, entrée, drinks, main, and dessert. Inside each category, you find a variety of subcategories. You learn to recognize dishes that you may not typically see in Chinese restaurants in North America, learn to recognize the name,...

iPhone app review: Decoder French Pronunciation

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  education, France, French, learn, learning, pronuncation, teach    Posted date:  August 27, 2011  |  No comment

When you hear a French female voice, not even a breathy one, saying "message de la sécurité ..." in your ear, then you might get the impression that she wants to massage your body for security reasons. But in reality, it's just a public announcement with a warning against pickpockets. Apparently saying even anything trivial in French sounds very sensual and is extremely impressive - especially for ladies, so while the French language has vocabulary that's very similar to English, learning proper pronunciation may be especially worthwhile. Besides: it's peanuts, extremely easy, compared to the difficulty...

Convertcast Episode 85 August 10, 2011 iOS 5 beta update - (this version) of iTunes SUCKS. :) Reminder - location based http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/08/10/us-apple-samsung-legal-idUSTRE77928620110810 Apple wins preliminary round against Samsung and is now going after Motorola Is it me, or does it make no sense that Apple wants to purchase iPad screens from Samsung in the midst of this drama? If Apple clears any competition that in any shape resembles its products (black or white "slabs"), are they on the way to being a monopoly? And speaking of monopolies.... http://brianshall.com/content/google-are-pussies Google...

If you are an iPhone developer and you're interested in having your app reviewed, send a promo code to edward@justanothergeeksite.com and we might review your app. Here we are reviewing an app for which we received a promo code and that we find rather interesting. At first glance this app looks exactly like the old iPod and we are amazed that Apple even approved it: (more...)
