ContactsXL for iPhone – Review

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  app, Apple, contacts, dialer, iOS, iPhone, phone, review    Posted date:  February 12, 2013  |  No comment

I recently snagged a promo code for ContactsXL, and was pleasantly surprised with what I'd gotten. One of the apps I missed most from the "good ole" Palm days, was a little something from Toysoft called Picture Dial. I loved Picture Dial (and not just because I had recommended it be developed in the first place). Highlighted by beautiful photos of your contacts that you could just tap to initiate a call to that person, I always considered this a must-have app. And it's something I've been missing a lot with iOS. ContactsXL makes up for as much of that functionality as can be made up within...

TaKePhOnE on your iPhone

I get very excited when I see one of my favorite developers bringing a favorite app from my Palm days to the iPhone. So I was, of course, thrilled when I got the newsletter from shsh software back in June mentioning the iPhone version of TaKePhOnE. I spoke briefly to Shimon Shnitzer, the developer, who told me that he’d run into some issues with os 3.0 and was working on an update. Being the devoted fan I am, I made the purchase anyway and sat back to wait. The update finally came on my birthday (and I’m sure it was intentional!). If you are a former Palm Treo type, then you probably don’t...

iFavorites for iPhone

Notice the icon in the primary slot of my dock where the phone usually goes? It has been replaced. Quite possibly permanently. There’s a good possibility that the Messages app will go shortly, and join its brother Phone somewhere around page ten of my springboard. It really didn’t take me long to make the decision, either, and for 99 cents, iFavorites does what Phone should have done from jump street. It allows you to have several pages of favorites organized by category, and (providing you want to), you get to see your contact photos right on the favorites screen. The thing that makes...

Inesoft Phone 4

Since I started using Windows Mobile on my Treo 800w (which I still love, btw!) my major complaint has been the lack of decent full screen photo caller id, and lousy contact photo dial. But thanks to my vigilance in following the Treo Central forums, I found the answer to my wishes. For an application that is, in all honesty, purely cosmetic, I felt that $29.99 was rather steep. Fortunately, I was able to use a $10 credit I'd saved through past purchases at Handango, and get Inesoft Phone 4 for only $19.99. While I was initially looking only for either contact photo dial or full screen photo caller...
