FlyGrip – Smartphone accessory review

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  Android, cellphone, e-reader, Fly grip, holder, iPhone, ipod, Kindle, mobile, Nook, one-hand, smartphone    Posted date:  August 9, 2012  |  No comment

The FlyGrip is a great little gadget that makes holding your cellphone or e-reader more comfortable. Available in 8 colors and 3 sizes, it goes with everything and everyone. Simply take the adhesive backing off the FlyGrip, and attach to the bottom of your phone or e-reader. The FlyGrip pivots back and forth so that you can get your fingers under without pinching. The hard plastic is smooth and quite comfortable.     Mostly, it allows you to hold your device with one hand, and still access the entire screen. It's great for taking photos! If you wanted to, you could...

ThingSling Accessory Review

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, cellphone, ipod, mobile phone, mp3 player, review, thingsling    Posted date:  May 29, 2012  |  No comment

What is the ThingSling? Just a clever little gizmo you stick to the back of whatever device you don't want to drop. In this photo to the left, you see it on my Kindle Touch, but you can stick it to a phone, iPod, mp3 player - just about anything. The ThingSling is made of a thick piece of elastic attached to a piece of hard plastic, that adheres to the back of your device. It's small, and doesn't add much bulk, so your gadget still fits in your purse or pocket even with the ThingSling attached. Here is the ThingSling story from Johnny Murphy: A little more than a year and half ago,...

Tech21 – Impactology

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, cases, cellphone, CTIA, protection, tablet    Posted date:  May 16, 2012  |  One Comment

I received many emails leading up to this year's CTIA. None piqued my interest so much as the one promising the CEO would be bringing his "industrial drop test machine." So I went to the Tech21 website to see what this could be about, and found this really cool video. You can check it out for yourself later, but the gist is, they wrap this guy's hand in this orange goop and bash it with a hammer - and he doesn't feel a thing. Are you as intrigued as I was? What makes Impactology™ unique is the secret ingredient D30® Impact Fabric used within our designs. It's composed of a non-Newtonian...

Random Bling

Every year at CTIA, I wander the exhibit hall looking for the blingiest cases out there. And every year brings more. Most of these cases are not particularly functional, and totally over the top. But they're here, and well represented. Here is a small sample for your viewing pleasure.

So many people use their camera phones as their primary camera these days. Even Annie Leibovitz recently recommended her iPhone as a basic point and shoot during an interview with NBC's Brian Williams. It has always been said that the best camera is the one you have with you, and since almost everyone carries a mobile phone today, that almost makes it the best by default. Depending on your mobile phone, your camera can be "ok" or really great. They range all over the place, from 3 to 12 Megapixels, and some use the same lenses made for expensive SLR cameras. But regardless of the number of Megapixels...

Cobra Universal Cigarette Lighter Mount

Finding a spot for your phone in your car can be a challenge. You want it nearby, but you don't want to have to keep grabbing for it. (And you know you shouldn't be using it while driving in the first place.) Of course, if you're using gps, it's even more important to be able to keep it in view, and close enough to hear easily. And a power source would be nice, right? Enter the Cobra Universal Cigarette Lighter Mount. One word of caution, check the location of your cigarette lighter power inputs before looking at this type of mount. Placement is important. My last car was a Toyota Camry, where...

One of my last appointments at the 2011 CTIA was with BodyGuardz. No longer just screen protectors, they have an assortment of cases and bumpers (siders) in colours for every taste, and a new carbon fibre skin for the back/sides of your device that makes it look awesome! Take a look at these videos, as we get a product walkthrough, and then see a) a perfectly good phone take a beating with an electric sander, and b) how simple it is for someone (other than me!) to install a skin. Enjoy! Product walkthrough: Installation of carbon fibre back: Last step - putting on the sides:
