Wired and wireless, DBEST has some amazing speakers and headphones.

Here’s Jeff Galant from SmartIT to show and tell more about DBEST.

Jeff also had a piece of sculpture masquerading as a speaker. Or maybe it was a speaker masquerading as a sculpture. At any rate, the sound was awesome, and it had some great features. Here are some photos.

I purchased an inexpensive generic keyboard case for my original iPad. The design of the case was such that it could easily have been used with my new iPad, but I didn’t like the rubber keyboard, which frequently missed or duplicated my keystrokes. Thus, I decided to give that case to my husband with the old iPad – sounds evil, I know, but I’m a touch typist and my husband pounds away with only his index fingers. I opted to buy a different case for my new iPad. After looking around for quite a while, I chose the Targus Versavu Keyboard case (not to be confused with the Targus Versavu reviewed here recently).

One of my primary deciding factors was the fact that the case could be used with the device in both portrait and landscape. The iPad snaps into a hard plastic shell, which is attached by a swiveling ring to the case. The iPad stands at only one angle, but I have found it to be comfortable in either portrait or landscape. The iPad can also be folded back against the case to lay flat.

The keyboard has hard plastic keys in a standard QWERTY layout. There are also buttons for volume (up, down, mute), media controls (play/pause, forward, reverse), cut, copy and paste, search, home, power on, screen unlock, slide show, and show/hide the on-screen keyboard. There are also standard Mac control, option, and command buttons. The keys are very responsive, and I have very seldom had duplicated keystrokes.

The keyboard charges using a standard mini-USB plug. When the keyboard is unused for more than 10 minutes it goes to sleep to save power. This also helps save power on the iPad. I have left the keyboard on for several days straight and not run the battery out.

The keyboard paired easily with the iPad, and I have not had any problems with the connection, although there is a brief delay when the keyboard is waking out of the power-save mode.

This case is available for both the iPad 2 and the “new” iPad (3), but since I bought the iPad 2 version and have the new iPad, I can definitely say the older version does fit the new iPad. These cases retail for $99.99, although they can be found on Amazon for less than $70. Both versions are available in black exterior with a grey interior, and the new version is also available with a bone-white exterior.

If you are looking for a good quality BlueTooth keyboard case that will also give your iPad a distinctive look, this case is a great alternative.

Nashua, NH – July 8, 2011 — Jabra, a world leader in innovative, high-quality hands-free audio solutions, today announced a new addition to its award-winning portfolio of PRO Series wireless headset solutions – the Jabra PRO 9450. Designed for businesses looking to make a smooth transition to Unified Communications in mind, the new PRO Series model makes handling calls from multiple hard and soft phones easier than ever. The Jabra PRO 9450, which is optimized for Microsoft Lync 2010, will be on display next week at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference in Los Angeles.

“As business organizations continue to realize the true value of Unified Communications, the Jabra PRO 9450 is an ideal product for making the transition to combine deskphones and UC softphones,” said Pete Fox, President and GM, Jabra North America. “The user-friendly device eliminates the stresses that are associated with making the switch to Unified Communications and offers superior sound quality thanks to state-of-the-art audio technology.”

The Jabra PRO 9450 allows users to answer calls in four different ways: when away from their desks, using the headset; at their desks by pressing a button on the headset base touch pad display; using Jabra Call Manager software; or using computer keyboard shortcuts. A noise-cancelling microphone ensures that the user’s voice is heard clearly, and wideband audio makes incoming calls sound crystal clear. And with a range of up to 450 feet, the Jabra PRO 9450 frees users up to a new productive, un-tethered work style.

“Microsoft is dedicated to supporting the launch of Lync optimized products, providing a wide range of solutions for customers adopting unified communications platforms,” said Kirk Gregersen, senior director, Microsoft Lync, Microsoft Corp. “The Jabra PRO 9450 is another example of Jabra developing higher quality audio solutions that are simpler to install, easier to use and targeted at the needs of our mutual customers.”

There have been many portable speakers developed over the years for our insatiable need for quality sound on the go, but very few have made the impact or started a social buzz quite like the Jawbone Jambox. From the first moment I caught a glimpse of this portable dynamo I wanted one! I have officially owned my Jambox since December of last year and have had extensive time to develop an opinion. If you’re on the fence about the Jambox because of price or lack of information then read on and hopefully you will have your answer.

Unboxing

The good folks at Aliph did an amazing job with the visual packaging of the Jambox. It’s housed in a clear plastic frame that gives you a clear view of what you’re getting. I think this adds to the appeal of purchasing the device and draws in the buyer at first glance. I’m giving the Jambox an A+ on this aspect. Inside the box you will find a usb wall charger, neoprene cover case, a 60″ and a 12.5″ micro USB charging cable and a 3.5mm stereo out cable. Everything you will need, Aliph has provided so you can get your “Jam” on no matter what kind of device you’re connecting to.

Build Quality
After unboxing the Jambox, one of the first things you’ll notice is these devices are extremely well made. Both the top and bottom portions of the device have a thick rubberized material that does a great job at protecting your Jambox just in case it slips out of your hand and hits the floor. Believe me, accidents do happen, and this was a smart move in the overall design of the device. The rubberized texture also helps with keeping your Jambox stationary wherever you may decide to set it. All the buttons on the device are clicky and feel very sturdy. Here again, quality didn’t take a back seat, which is something I admire in any product I buy. Overall I give the Jambox an A+ on build quality.

Usability
Using this device is as easy as 1,2,3! Pairing the Jambox with any bluetooth device is a breeze. Simply hold the on/off switch up until the Jambox vocally tells you it’s ready to be paired and you are good to go! My first device I paired to was my IPhone. Immediately I noticed this speaker was in a realm all by itself. The sound quality out of such a small device was utterly amazing! The treble highs and bass lows were more than I could have anticipated. The 85 decibel acoustic drivers are nothing short of amazing when filling the room with your favorite tunes: all this rich sound in a device that fits in the palm of your hand! Now that’s what I call innovation! Next, I moved on to my Macbook to see how the Jambox fared with playing movies. I’m quite the avid movie buff and watch a lot of movies as well as listen to my music via my Macbook so this was a vast improvement over my built in speakers. People that have listened to my Jambox while connected to my Macbook have been sold immediately and are amazed that such a small speaker could produce such quality sound. My final test was with my newly acquired IPad2. Just like the IPhone and Macbook the Jambox didn’t disappoint. Using the Jambox does nothing short of change your whole experience with using devices like the IPad. Playing games like Real Racing2 HD solidifies your gaming experience by giving you amazing sound to go along with the stunning graphics. I can honestly say that without the Jambox, gaming, movies, and music are nowhere near the stellar an experience they become with the Jambox. For those of you who may be wondering about battery life, worry no further. The Jambox boasts a full 10hrs of battery life that will keep you entertained til the sun comes up! Overall I have to give the Jambox usability factor an A+ as well.

Features
There are many great features that some users don’t even take into account when looking at the Jawbone Jambox. First and foremost is the new MyTalk feature that Aliph has introduced since marketing the Jawbone Icon (one of their best headsets). The MyTalk feature allows you to essentially upgrade your device and add functionality to an already amazing device! The fact that the Jambox is also a bluetooth speakerphone gives you the option to change speaking voices on the device as well as add services such as Jott, Dial2Do, VoiceOnTheGo, and the newly introduced Jawbone Thoughts. I don’t personally use the speakerphone all that much, but the few times I have I didn’t seem to have any complaints from the caller and the call itself was as crystal clear as you would expect. Pressing the round talk button on the top of the Jambox will also read to you the remaining battery life on the device. Even with a 10hr battery it’s nice to know how much time you have left before you will require a recharge. With the implementation of the MyTalk features I have to give the Jambox another well deserved A+.

Pros and Cons
What’s not to like? You might ask yourself this, but there are a few things I would like to see changed to improve the overall user experience. One would be having the voice introduction volume set low so when you power on your Jambox everybody around you doesn’t know you just turned on your device. I think this can be easily corrected with a software update via the MyTalk feature. The other feature I would like to see is a new case design that provides protection, but allows you to leave the case on and just expose the speaker drivers themselves. On the Pros side what don’t I like? You are getting a small but powerful package that provides style, hours of usability, the ability to connect to multiple devices by two different methods and a speakerphone to boot!

Conclusion
Overall I don’t believe you can go wrong with the Jawbone Jambox. It provides you with hours of stereo enabled, ear-pleasing enjoyment. The only thing that might hold back some users is the $199.99 price tag. It is quite a bit of money to drop on a portable speaker, but when you think of how much it can enrich your user experience with all your different devices it’s well worth it, in this users opinion. I don’t regret the money I spent one bit and would do it again. The Jawbone Jambox comes in four exciting colors as well (Red Dot, Black Diamond, Grey Hex and Blue Wave). You can order your Jambox straight from the Aliph website or retail stores such as Best Buy, Apple, and AT&T. If you keep your eyes peeled you may even luck up and find it on sale. So what are waiting for? Go get yourself a Jawbone Jambox and start Kickin’ It!

Final Grade A

Not only does it pair with any Bluetooth enabled phone, it acts as a hands-free speakerphone. Two products for the price of one.

There’s an app coming, first for Android, and then iPhone, which will give you even more options as to how to use your ZOMM. Priced between $79-$99, I’d say it’s reasonable.

Response (Jenny) – 08/10/2010 10:12 AM
Dear Alli,

Thanks for clarifying that for us. Apple has acknowledged there is an issue with their iPhone 4 and Bluetooth headsets. They recommend trying an iPhone reset but I have found this to be more of a nuisance than anything. Before you try a reset please make sure you back-up all your settings since it resets everything back to default.

Go to Settings> General
Go to Reset Options
Go to Reset all settings

Apple has said that they are also working a software update that they hope will fix this issue.

Hope this helps Alli!

Sincerely,
