Review: Kumo Lumo – game for iPad and iPhone

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  apps, games, iOS, iPad, iPhone, review    Posted date:  May 12, 2013  |  No comment

Cloud storage and cloud computing are very hot topics nowadays in Information Technology industry. However I like also other kinds of clouds: those that bring rain. Yes, I am one of these people who likes cloudy, rainy regions like Seattle or London. That's why I also like this game - Kumo Lumo - a 2D arcade scroller where you play a character "Lumo" that is a cloud! Not really cloud computing related but a cloud! This is a freemium game - you can download and play it for free but you can buy items if you want to speed up gaming. It is also very mature and also supports joystick as control....

Review: Workflowy – the best outliner for web and iOS

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  apps, iOS, iPad, iPhone, lists, notes, outlines, review    Posted date:  March 31, 2013  |  No comment

While neither Google Docs nor Evernote are a full-featured outlining applications, it is possible to create outlines with them. However, outlines are better handled in specialised outliners. Recently David Winer, with Kyle Shank, formed LLC in Delaware and released their first product - web based outliner LittleOutliner (made with HTML5 technology). Although it's not bad, (has text formatting, no need to log-in), it is just a first effort (no sync between computers, saving just locally, no support for mobile devices). While I was looking at comments about this new hobby of David Winer, I noticed...

Review: AirPhones – app for streaming audio from PC/Mac to iPad/iPhone

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  airphone, apps, iOS, iPad, iPhone, mac, pc streaming, review, Windows    Posted date:  March 23, 2013  |  No comment

I am reviewing this app just because I love it. From time to time I would search for apps that would enable me to stream audio from my PC to my iPad, but all I could find were apps that played media (like video/audio files) remotely. What I needed, however, was playback of system sound - whatever it is at given moment - on my iPad. In other words I needed an app that would send any audio that is played on my PC to my iPad. And after a long search I have found it - it's called "AirPhones" - an iPhone app (that also works on iPad) and that requires server side on PC or Mac. You might think: why the heck...

ZoomNotes App Review

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  apps, iOS, iPad, notes, stylus, ZoomNotes    Posted date:  February 2, 2013  |  No comment

I love using my iPad for taking notes. I started with Penultimate. It was..ok. It's obvious to me that the people who believe that Penultimate is anything other than penultimate, have never tried any other note taking apps. I quickly left Penultimate when I discovered Notability and CaptureNotes 2. I've gone back and forth between those two for the last year - they each have completely different strengths, so it's been a tough call. Now I've met ZoomNotes, and it was love at first sight. This app is a beast! If you can think of a feature you would want in a notes app, (like the commercial says),...

iPhone app review : Map Measure

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  apps, iOS, ipad app review, iphone app review, maps, review    Posted date:  July 5, 2012  |  No comment

This app is not unique - there are many many apps with which you can measure distance or area - but I like this one. I don't claim it's the best, it's simply the easiest to use for me. I must admit that I like this app a lot. I find it extremely useful and I will keep it long-term. While built-in Maps app of iOS has distance measurement via route calculation, I often want to know the distance in straight line or I would like to know the area of some place and then this app comes in handy. There are 2 kinds of things I use this app for: one is for some places near me, in vicinity - to know...

iPhone game review: Wawa Land

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  apps, games, iOS, review iPod    Posted date:  June 27, 2012  |  No comment

The only games that I am able to play on iPhone are casual games. The only games that I can play for a longer time are Kinect games. Here I am reviewing Wawa Land - a game made by French indie 1-person developer PlayFripp. Here is the logo of this company from the splash screen. Unfortunately this game is no good for my casual gaming purposes, but all in all it's nicely done and supports retina display in my iPhone. For people who have more time to spend, it may be interesting. But let's take a look at it! At the beginning you have to catapult your character to the level (called...

iPhone app review: My Fusion Tables

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  apps, fusion tables, Google, iOS, iPad, iPhone, ipod, review    Posted date:  June 26, 2012  |  No comment

Here I am reviewing an app for iPhone (and iPad, universal) written by DeuceSoft, a small company that makes it possible to browse data stored in Google's latest online app, Fusion Tables. What is Fusion Tables? It's difficult to describe just what Fusion Tables is. You have to see it for yourself. No, just kidding. Fusion Tables is more like a database than a spreadsheet. Unlike a spreadsheet, Fusion Tables is rather a kind-of cloud-based database where you can comfortably, via web interface, edit fields, edit data, and you can also visualize data in charts and on maps. In spreadsheets,...

Display Recorder – iOS App Review

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  apps, audio, capture, Display Recorder, iOS, iPad, iPhone, ipod, review, video    Posted date:  June 23, 2012  |  One Comment

Apple makes taking a simple screen capture so easy: just press the power and home buttons simultaneously, and you're done. But recording a video screen capture has proved to be more of a challenge. Sure, you can do it from the emulator, but until now the only way to do it from your iOS device was via a jailbreak. Not anymore! Display Recorder is finally available from iTunes for only $1.99. This app is of particular importance to developers as well as bloggers. How nice to be able to include app tutorials right on the developer's website - tutorials that can be made quickly and easily, with...

iPhone game review: Probe the Humans

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  aliens, apps, games, iOS, iPad, iPhone, ipod, review    Posted date:  June 23, 2012  |  No comment

While most people think that in December 2012 nothing will happen, some people think that the world will end, courtesy of a solar flare. Personally, I hope that aliens will come to Earth then. What can aliens do on planet Earth, considering how extremely primitive our homo sapiens species is? Well...aliens like to abduct for scientific purposes of course, although I suspect some fun may be involved too. Speaking of fun, Probe the Humans is a fun iPhone game where you are an alien abducting humans as well as livestock, like cows and pigs. You also ollect coins, which makes little sense in alien...

Panorama™ for iPhone – app review

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  apps, camera, camera app, iOS, iPhone, Pano, panorama, panoramic, review    Posted date:  June 16, 2012  |  No comment

It's summer now so many people are traveling, and while traveling some nice landscapes can be observed. But sometimes using regular camera apps is not enough, as such apps don't reproduce the impression that you have while visiting these places. However, if you take a panoramic photo of the place, it gives a much better impression of what this place is actually like. Here I am reviewing Panorama™ (Panorama with "TM" = trademark in name). This is one of many many panorama apps, but according to some blog editors, it is the best panorama app out there. It's not free ($0.99) but it seems to be good...
