Allsop extends their line of sticky stuff

Posted by: Diana M. McDonough    Tags:  accessories, car mounts, CTIA, phones, tablet    Posted date:  May 9, 2012  |  No comment

A while back, I wrote a review of a Clingo car mount. At CTIA, I met with Allsop's marketing manager, Kelli Veening, and she showed me some of the new products they are unveiling.      In addition to some new tablet stands, they now have a tablet brand-agnostic blue tooth keyboard case which uses their incredibly sticky gel to secure any 10" tablet to the hard plastic back.  The back secures to the keyboard (which is also encased in a sturdy plastic shell) via several small magnets, creating a total sleek and protective unit.  Because the tablet sleek us actually a separate unit from...

Functional Art at CTIA

When you go to an event like CTIA, you want to find something that just blows your socks off. I was lucky enough to find that something quickly, and almost by accident. Having spent two years in Taiwan as a teen, I find myself drawn to the Taiwan pavilion at CTIA, and it was there that I discovered Esoterism. Even the signage  in their booth was a mechanical drawing done by their artistic director, who happens to be a professor of art at one of Taipei's most prestigious art institutes. We will look at two pieces as they were presented to me. Aluminum bumper cases for the iPhone 4/4S, you can tell...

PERCH – Watching your wires

Every day, travelers leave chargers behind in hotel rooms.  Hotels collect boxes and boxes of those chargers.  Now, a company called Loss Prevention Systems, or LPS, has introduced a solution to help travelers remember to take their chargers with them. I met with Mike Andrews here at CTIA, and in this video, he shows us how that technology works.

Not too long ago, I told you about a super protective case called the LifeProof. The LifeProof case is now available for many of our favorite mobile phones, and they're here at CTIA to give us a demo of just how indestructible and protective these cases really are.

iHangy iPhone Lanyards

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, iHangy, iPhone, ipod, lanyard, stylus    Posted date:  May 5, 2012  |  One Comment

I have always loved keeping my phone on a lanyard. Maybe it's a girl thing, but even when I was on duty after Hurricane Ivan, I had my Treo on a lanyard...under my uniform jacket. It seemed a no brainer. But fewer and fewer phones come with a lanyard hook - which seems silly when almost all portable cameras still come with them, and smartphones cost more than the average point and shoot. Enter the iHangy. Funny name, but it couldn't be called anything else. And why not? Because it is for iPhones, and it lets them hang. Thus - iHangy. The iHangy comes in three flavors: original, crispy, and spicy....

Capta Smartphone Mount

Capta is a hybrid accessory for smartphones that combines the features of a tripod mount, a phone stand, and a cable management system into a simple elegant design small enough to carry everywhere you go." As more and more people use their smartphones as their primary camera, it becomes more important to be able to use those camera phones  the way we would use a traditional camera. One of the things we do with our cameras that is difficult with a phone is mounting it to a tripod. With the Capta Smartphone Mount, putting your phone on a tripod is a breeze with the threaded hole at the bottom of the small,...

Targus Versavu Bluetooth Keyboard case for iPad 2/3rd Gen.

Posted by: Diana M. McDonough    Tags:  accessories, bluetooth, cases, iPad, keyboard    Posted date:  April 12, 2012  |  No comment

I purchased an inexpensive generic keyboard case for my original iPad. The design of the case was such that it could easily have been used with my new iPad, but I didn’t like the rubber keyboard, which frequently missed or duplicated my keystrokes. Thus, I decided to give that case to my husband with the old iPad - sounds evil, I know, but I'm a touch typist and my husband pounds away with only his index fingers. I opted to buy a different case for my new iPad. After looking around for quite a while, I chose the Targus Versavu Keyboard case (not to be confused with the Targus Versavu reviewed...

iPadFLEX for iPad 2 (and New!)

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, Apple, cases, iPad, pivot, protection, rotate, tripod    Posted date:  March 27, 2012  |  No comment

It's true. I regularly troll Kickstarter. Sometimes I send a recommendation your way if I'd like to see it succeed, and other times I find something that's already succeeding. This is one of those cases (no pun intended). The iPad Flex Kit was almost at its goal when I found it, so I backed it and sat back and waited to receive mine. Let me tell you all about it.   What you see here, is the skeleton of the Flex. A thin, but strong shell that clips to the back of your iPad (2 or "new") and offers you some comfortable alternatives for holding and carrying your tablet. In this photo,...
