Game Review: Spirit

It's not often I get excited about a game. As most of you know, I've been happily playing Bejeweled since the 90's. But I recently saw my husband playing a game on his 10.1" Samsung Galaxy Note tablet that had me thinking "that looks like fun!" Have a look for yourself. I immediately had to see if this game was available for iOS as well, and to my delight it was! I quickly spent my $.99, and loaded it to my new iPad mini. And holy cow! It is as much fun to play as it looks - and that's coming from a total non-gamer! As you can see from the video above, instead of shooting at your attackers,...

The iPad as an Expensive Cat Toy

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  apps, cats, games, iOS, iPad, video, youtube    Posted date:  June 9, 2012  |  One Comment

Not long ago, I read a forum post asking if you would buy your pet an iPad. I think the answer is an unqualified NO for most of us. But people do allow small children and pets to use their tech. I believe both small children and pets have the same capacity to damage your devices, so caution must be used with both. The youtube video showing an elephant using a Galaxy Note was (in my mind, at least), bizarre. I would never ever offer my iPad to an elephant. Even a baby elephant. Then I started really thinking about pets and the iPad. My cats walk across the keyboard of my computers as though they...

Personalize Your Life with ivoke

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  app, CTIA, images, Life360, merchandize, personalize, photographs    Posted date:  May 19, 2012  |  No comment

ivoke takes one stop shopping to a whole new level. Take your photo, edit it with Color Splurge, and then turn it into a memory to have shipped straight to your door. You  can do all this directly from the Color Splurge app. Take a new photo, use an existing photo from your photo album, or a photo from your Facebook album. Once you've uploaded your photo, you can desaturate the color - you know, add in color to only where you want it. It's a very simple app that does exactly what it's supposed to do. In the above photo you can see a photo I desaturated of my nephew playing soccer....

Life360 Family Locator app

The Life360 Family Locator app, which lets families keep track of each other's locations, could be your next must-have utility app – whether you have kids or not. Life360, which will reach a 15 million user milestone at CTIA (that’s only 5M away from LBS giant, Foursquare), will talk about their expansion plans such as integrating the app with vehicle security systems so that users can see where their car is at any time. In fact, Life360 recently announced a Series A funding round with Bill Ford of Ford Motor Company as an investor. Life360 is also talking to home security firms about...

Skinit Cases at CTIA

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  Apple, cases, CTIA, iPhone, Mac accessories, Skinit    Posted date:  May 18, 2012  |  No comment

We met up with Lewis Chang at CTIA to see what Skinit had that was exciting. If you simply watch the video below, with no sound, the colors and designs alone will blow you away. Skinit has gone all out with licensed professional and college sports logos, movies, tv, and artwork you know so well. The colors pop, and most of their cases are textured, so they feel good as well as look good. I really liked the ease of changing the back plates to quickly give your phone a whole new look. Lewis showed me some hot covers that fit on the MacBook Air, but explained they didn't have Macs to just...

Kickstarter – Scanbox

I saw the name "Scanbox" and almost moved past it. But something made me stop and click. I've used my iPhone as a scanner since the day I got it. Just two days ago when a colleague came to me wanting help scanning yearbook photos I told her "user your iPhone - just take a picture. It's the same thing as a scan." And that's pretty much true. Scanbox is what I call a d'oh - no brainer. It holds your iPhone level at the exact distance to photograph an 8.5 x 11 page. Like I said - d'oh! I have hundreds of photos of important documents that I've taken with my iPhone. I would say that 100% are not straight,...

DBEST LONDON – Sound Accessories

DBEST boasts the smallest bluetooth speaker in the world. I don't know if they're the smallest, but they are loud enough to be heard over the roar in the convention center during CTIA. And they're beautiful! Wired and wireless, DBEST has some amazing speakers and headphones. Here's Jeff Galant from SmartIT to show and tell more about DBEST. Jeff also had a piece of sculpture masquerading as a speaker. Or maybe it was a speaker masquerading as a sculpture. At any rate, the sound was awesome, and it had some great features. Here are some photos.

Tech21 – Impactology

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, cases, cellphone, CTIA, protection, tablet    Posted date:  May 16, 2012  |  One Comment

I received many emails leading up to this year's CTIA. None piqued my interest so much as the one promising the CEO would be bringing his "industrial drop test machine." So I went to the Tech21 website to see what this could be about, and found this really cool video. You can check it out for yourself later, but the gist is, they wrap this guy's hand in this orange goop and bash it with a hammer - and he doesn't feel a thing. Are you as intrigued as I was? What makes Impactology™ unique is the secret ingredient D30® Impact Fabric used within our designs. It's composed of a non-Newtonian...
