What’s in a name…or a contact?

Posted by: Diana M. McDonough    Tags:  Android, app, contacts, Go Dev Team, Google    Posted date:  September 24, 2011  |  No comment

I know I am not alone in my dislike of Android’s built-in contact manager.  Among many other frustrations, it is incredible that in order to be able to see a contact’s address (home, email etc), you have to put the contact in “edit” mode. Enter GO Contacts EX, another application from the popular GO Dev team.  Not only is this a better contact management interface, but it is also a dialer replacement, which brings back a feature that I have missed since my days on the Hero: that of being able to type a few letters of a person’s name (2 for a, b or c, 3 for d, e or f, etc.) and have...

The bottom line is: both Windows Phone 7 pre-mango as well as Windows Phone 7.5 post-mango are junk, don't even consider buying them! (more...)

Review: Agile Project Manager (Scrum Sprint Planner) for iPad

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  agile, iPad, scrum    Posted date:  September 18, 2011  |  No comment

This app is not for everybody, it's mainly for project managers in software development or eventually for developers, analysts and stake holders involved in software development projects. Of course, theoretically, the same methodology could be used in development of other non-software products, but in reality it's used mainly for software. Nowadays a lot of software development takes place in the world, whereby a lot of its custom software is used only in specific enterprises and corporations, not standard software used by thousands of users. Since very often customers cannot properly convey...

Chopsticks Culture

Chopsticks Culture is a new educational iPhone app. Its focus is Chinese cuisine, and the language that surrounds it. The concept is great: photos of authentic dishes, and their names in both Mandarin and Cantonese. You get a transliteration, the Chinese spelling, and audio. Of course, you also get photos of each dish along with its name. There are four categories, entrée, drinks, main, and dessert. Inside each category, you find a variety of subcategories. You learn to recognize dishes that you may not typically see in Chinese restaurants in North America, learn to recognize the name,...

Kioky – The Rise and Fall

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  applicator, iPhone 4, kickstarter, kioky, screen protector    Posted date:  September 17, 2011  |  One Comment

About a year ago, I discovered Kickstarter. Ok, so I didn't exactly discover it in the way Columbus discovered America, but it was new to me. And the reason I came across it was because of a startup company called Kioky. Strange name. You can read all about their Kickstarter program here, but they're pas that now, and into production. I thought their product sounded pretty ingenious - a frame to hold a screen protector, so that all you had to do was drop your phone in, screen first, and everything would line up. Those of you who have followed me for a while, know that this is the very thing I've...

PDF Printer

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  application, apps, business, document, iPad, iPhone, PDF, pdf converter, pdf printer, PDF Provider, productivity, professional    Posted date:  September 17, 2011  |  No comment

Not long ago, Edward wrote a review of PDF Converter for iPad. I was quite disappointed to discover it was neither a universal app, nor available for the iPhone. Then I discovered PDF Printer, which seems to do exactly the same thing, only it is a universal app. (Hooray for universal binaries!) Not only is PDF Printer a universal binary, but it costs less than PDF Converter - $2.99 as opposed to $6.99! PDF Printer will turn virtually anything you have into a .pdf file. From the menu, you choose where you want to get the information that you want to turn into a .pdf.  The first option...

Kinect game review: UFC Personal Trainer

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  exercise, Kinect, martial arts, mma, ufc personal trainer, workout, Xbox    Posted date:  September 9, 2011  |  No comment

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is an American mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion company. In other words: it's like wrestling but less fake (most UFC fighters would defeat those fake wrestlers in literally 5 seconds). So, UFC Personal Trainer is not a game in which you can fight adversaries, but a game in which you can exercise physically, and where you can practice moves needed in martial arts, including both hand and leg techniques. Facial recognition problems typical for such extremely bad games as "Fighters Uncaged" (this game is appallingly bad, don't buy it!) is solved in this...

Hands-on Review: Samsung Galaxy Note

Posted by: Edward    Tags:  Android, galaxy note, mobile phone, Samsung, samsung galaxy note    Posted date:  September 3, 2011  |  No comment

What's flying up there? Is it a plane? Is it a bird? No! It's the Superman! Yes, Samsung has a new super device on their hands. After the Samsung Galaxy S2 - the incredibly succesful 4.3 inch dual-core Android smartphone, comes the 5.29 inch dual-core, Android-powered super device that combines many devices in one. If you carry both a smartphone and tablet with you, Samsung has a solution for you: Samsung Galaxy Note = a cellphone + multitouch tablet + pen input device all in one. It's a stunner and yes, it's pocktable for non-midget persons. Since I couldn't find even one Windows...

Little Black Book – iPhone

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, cover, iPhone, Little Black Book, Pad and Quill    Posted date:  August 28, 2011  |  No comment

My friends are forever teasing me about my "god phone."  I carry it around as though it were the most important thing in the world. (It is.) Now they're concerned that I'm carrying the Steve Jobs Bible. I'm okay with giving that impression. But let me tell you why they are saying this. Not long ago I was talking to someone on my new favorite social media site, Google +, about an iPhone case called The Little Black Book. I thought it was really clever, but I said I wouldn't race out to get it because it didn't have a camera cutout. And then, recently, a mention of  Pad and Quill on TiPb....
