A recent study by Elcomsoft questioned whether sixteen popular password keepers live up to their claimed levels of protection.  The article uses many terms familiar to security experts but not to everyday users. At Ascendo, we received many emails from concerned customers. This article attempts to demystify some of the concepts discussed in the study to help non-security experts make informed decisions about password managers. A basic feature of most password managers is data encryption using ciphers such as AES and Blowfish. A cipher is simply a mathematical formula which uses a string of characters...

Device Review – Nook Touch

Special thanks to Elizabeth McDonough for this review! There is an ever-growing market out there for e-readers and tablets. That leaves one confused as to which one is the best choice. Fear not, however, because I’m about to review one of these devices from the many available: The Nook Touch. We’ll begin with the obvious factors: size, weight, battery life, and memory. I can tell you after a week or two of use that it’s very light (7.48 ounces), extremely portable (6.5 inches high by 5 inches wide and .47 inches in depth), and I’ve only had to charge it maybe twice after near-constant...

Which is the best social networking site? These days, it seems like everyone a member of at least one social networking site, if not more. Social media claims to have benefits for your social life, your education, your career - but which one should you be using? Here are just four which you might consider... First up, it's Facebook. There are many ways to keep fit and video games recently entered this realm, much to my delight. The Wii was the first console that entered this market in 2006. When the small device was first launched - the world lusted over it. But now there is a new guy in town; the Xbox Kinect, which allows the user to interact with the console without the need of a controller. This is incredibly liberating! Launched in 2010, using advanced technology, the webcam style device tracks your movements so the gamer is free from any restraints. The console, which also responds to the spoken word, offers a great...

The Definitive Guide to Netbooks vs REDFLY™

Posted by: Guest Contributor    Tags:  laptop, mobile, mobile technology, netbook, Redfly, Windows    Posted date:  March 10, 2009  |  No comment

March 10, 2009

This guide was written by our good friend John D'Agnese. You can find the original on his website, Veracitynation and follow him on Twitter. Please let him know what you think, and maybe we can get him to contribute again! With the addition of two relatively new mobile computing product solutions, there have been many who question whether or not it is better to get one over the other.  The two products are, as you might have guessed from the article title, netbooks and the Celio REDFLY™.   If one were to base their decision solely on feature oriented product pricing, one would...
