Chopsticks Culture

September 17, 2011

Chopsticks Culture is a new educational iPhone app. Its focus is Chinese cuisine, and the language that surrounds it. The concept is great: photos of authentic dishes, and their names in both Mandarin and Cantonese. You get a transliteration, the Chinese spelling, and audio. Of course, you also get photos of each dish along with its name. There are four categories, entrée, drinks, main, and dessert. Inside each category, you find a variety of subcategories. You learn to recognize dishes that you may not typically see in Chinese restaurants in North America, learn to recognize the name,...

September 17, 2011

About a year ago, I discovered Kickstarter. Ok, so I didn't exactly discover it in the way Columbus discovered America, but it was new to me. And the reason I came across it was because of a startup company called Kioky. Strange name. You can read all about their Kickstarter program here, but they're pas that now, and into production. I thought their product sounded pretty ingenious - a frame to hold a screen protector, so that all you had to do was drop your phone in, screen first, and everything would line up. Those of you who have followed me for a while, know that this is the very thing I've...

Not long ago, Edward wrote a review of PDF Converter for iPad. I was quite disappointed to discover it was neither a universal app, nor available for the iPhone. Then I discovered PDF Printer, which seems to do exactly the same thing, only it is a universal app. (Hooray for universal binaries!) Not only is PDF Printer a universal binary, but it costs less than PDF Converter - $2.99 as opposed to $6.99! PDF Printer will turn virtually anything you have into a .pdf file. From the menu, you choose where you want to get the information that you want to turn into a .pdf.  The first option...

Little Black Book – iPhone

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  accessories, cover, iPhone, Little Black Book, Pad and Quill    Posted date:  August 28, 2011  |  No comment

August 28, 2011

My friends are forever teasing me about my "god phone."  I carry it around as though it were the most important thing in the world. (It is.) Now they're concerned that I'm carrying the Steve Jobs Bible. I'm okay with giving that impression. But let me tell you why they are saying this. Not long ago I was talking to someone on my new favorite social media site, Google +, about an iPhone case called The Little Black Book. I thought it was really clever, but I said I wouldn't race out to get it because it didn't have a camera cutout. And then, recently, a mention of  Pad and Quill on TiPb....

TouchStars – iPhone app

Posted by: Alli Flowers    Tags:  app, games, iOS, iPhone, iPod Touch, Touchstars    Posted date:  August 28, 2011  |  No comment

August 28, 2011

Occasionally I'll watch an app video to see what the game play looks like. Sometimes it's enough for me to make the decision to try the game. More often than not I'm left underwhelmed. So before agreeing to try TouchStars from Touch Action, I clicked on the youtube link to see their promo. I liked the video so much, I agreed to look at the app. Take a look for yourself before I continue. I hope that gave you as big a giggle as it did me.   TouchStars starts is not one of those games that will blow you away with eye popping graphics or a brilliant soundtrack. It's old school...
