Do you run out of real estate on your home screen for icons? Do you wish you had a way to have an icon-free interface? Tagy Widgets is the answer!

If you are anything like me, you like to be able to get to your most commonly used applications in as few moves as possible. In the past, I’ve resorted to folders, folder-like widgets and widgets that “shrink” icons to do this. None of them have suited me like Tagy.

Tagy presents your apps, contacts, settings or bookmarks in “clouds”. You can add as many items to a widget as you desire, and can put multiple widgets on your home screen (you choose the items for the widget when you create it, based on what type of widget it is). As you use different items on your widget, the text grows larger in size, making it easier to hit. (However, launching an application outside of the widget – i.e. from a notification or from recently used applications, will not affect the size of the tag in the widget). Conversely, infrequently used items grow smaller, making it easy to identify unused applications or content.

You can configure the app widget such that newly installed applications, contacts or bookmarks are added to the widget(s) automatically. With the full version, you can customize the color of the text and/or the text background. This is useful if the default color does not work well with your favorite wallpaper. You can also change the transparency of the background color.

There are a few small issues with the application, but none of them make the widgets unusable. Items with long names will get truncated. The small square at the end of the list is the configuration button. It is sometimes hard to hit. There is an option in the widget settings to also change the color of the tag based on frequency of use, but I have yet to see this happen. For the contacts widget, while you can specify which contacts to use, you cannot specify a default action (call a specific number, send SMS). Finally, if you un-install an application (or remove a contact or bookmark) without removing it from the widget first, the name of the application will continue to display in the widget (but once you touch the name, it disappears without causing an error).

Tagy is compatible with both phones and tablets. The lite version of Tagy is available in the Play Store. The To unlock all the features of Tagy, purchase the Tagy Unlocker for $0.99.
