This app is not unique – there are many many apps with which you can measure distance or area – but I like this one. I don’t claim it’s the best, it’s simply the easiest to use for me.

I must admit that I like this app a lot. I find it extremely useful and I will keep it long-term. While built-in Maps app of iOS has distance measurement via route calculation, I often want to know the distance in straight line or I would like to know the area of some place and then this app comes in handy.

There are 2 kinds of things I use this app for: one is for some places near me, in vicinity – to know how far approximately things are… and the second is geographical things I am wondering about.

For example: not Canada but Russia is the country with biggest territory in the world, but I was wondering the span (the biggest distance within) of Russia.

… compares to USA:

You can see that the difference is small, although by area the USA is “only” fourth biggest in the world.

I was also wondering how distances within Europe (here: distance between city of name “Nokia” and eternal city of Rome).

Compare to distances in USA (here: distance between Arizona and Chicago).

One can see that the difference is small – although, in fact, Europe is much more cramped than USA.

In past I have visited both Vatican city and Hyde Park in London and I was thinking that surely Vatican City must be bigger. But no! Thanks to area measuring feature of this app, I was able to prove otherwise.

This app is great because I can measure real distance or area of things and not the perceived one!

One can change units of measure.

One can also share measurements, show current location and more.

Conclusion:

Even though this is not a unique app for distance and area measuring (there are many similar), it’s probably one of the best ones and it’s a keeper. I don’t resent the fact that maps in this app are not offline because I travel mostly within European Union (EU) where international roaming fees are low by EU law, but remember that if you would travel to exotic countries this app could use up your data quickly and cost a lot. All in all: worth recommending, 4.5 stars of 5.
