iPhone game review: Wawa Land

The only games that I am able to play on iPhone are casual games. The only games that I can play for a longer time are Kinect games.

Here I am reviewing Wawa Land – a game made by French indie 1-person developer PlayFripp. Here is the logo of this company from the splash screen.

Unfortunately this game is no good for my casual gaming purposes, but all in all it’s nicely done and supports retina display in my iPhone. For people who have more time to spend, it may be interesting.

But let’s take a look at it!

At the beginning you have to catapult your character to the level (called “chapter”).

What is annoying is that it doesn’t matter how I catapult the character – left, rights, stronger, weaker – it lands at the same place in the level.

Of course there are other levels, but they are locked.

By the way, the character that you play looks like an Ewok from Star Wars and I am not sure what it is, probably a little bear.

The purpose of this game is to collect coins and to avoid or to kill (by jumping on them) other characters (that look like some Pokemon clones by the way).

Unfortunately the problem with this game is that the levels are too big, so I can’t complete them in 10-15 minutes that I have for casual gaming. I have no patience and time to repeat long sequences all over again. Most other games and games that are successful have smaller levels that you can pass and move on to next levels more quickly. Forcing gamer to play all over game through overly long sequence is very boring. If the levels are large, you should at least be able to save your place.

Settings are not very complex and mostly it’s about changing the looks of your virtual game controller.

The problem is that due to overly long levels I just don’t want to play this game again.

Conclusion

While this game is not appealing to me personally – too big levels, characters looking too much like Pokemon, lack of original game mechanics – it may find some fans among people who spend more than one hour in each session on playing. Quality of graphics is nice and with some tweaking this indie game developer may produce some super hits yet.

I give this game 2.5 stars out of 5.
