One of the things that constantly annoys me when I travel is the lack of outlets in hotel rooms, guest rooms, and barracks. Believe it or not, I carry 3 extension cords/surge protectors in the back of my car. But sometimes, they’re just not enough.
Sometimes you need something more…elegant. And that’s where the Energizer iSurge Travel Charging Station comes in. It’s lightweight and compact, easily fits in an overnight bag, and comes with all the bells and whistles.
By bells and whistles, of course, I mean plugs and lights. Yes, the iSurge comes with a nightlight built in – extra awesome for sleeping in a strange hotel room when you just want enough light to guide you to the loo at night. There’s a switch on the side so that you can turn the light on and off as needed.
There are three AC outlets on the front allowing you to plug in 3 devices with standard sized plugs. If you have something with one of those huge plugs, you’ll wind up losing the center plug (like you would on most power strips).
Fortunately, there’s still plenty of power left in this baby to juice two more devices even without the AC outlets.
As you can see from this image to the left, the top of the iSurge is not wasted space. It gives you a 32 pin Apple dock for your iPod or iPhone. The only downside here is that unless you have an open bottom case, you’ll have to remove your case to use it. But it’s still better than carrying around one more sync/charge cord.
Because you’ll need that one sync/charge cord to plug into the side of the iSurge to charge your iPad, Bluetooth, or Android device – whatever you have that charges via USB. On the side next to the light switch is a single USB outlet.
That brings the grand total of possible devices you can charge with the iSurge to five. Not bad for something you can throw in your overnight bag.
It’s great for home or office, too. It’s ideal for the kitchen, where you have outlets at counter height. Charge your iPod and play music while you fix dinner, or charge your iPad while using it as your recipe book.
The plug on the back rotates 180 degrees, so it fits most anywhere. I say “most,” because the outlet in my bathroom, which would be at a great height for the iSurge…is upside down, so I would lose the use of the iPod dock.
You can find the iSurge on Meijer for $49.99.
