Kinies Classic Mini – Purse or Gadget Bag?

Every geek gal knows how hard it is to find the right purse. A purse that’s big enough to hold all your gadgets without allowing them to get scratched up, but still look stylish. If you’re like me, you’ve been through every department store in your city looking for the right bag, with no luck. They’re either too big, too small, or the pockets are too small to be of any use.

We don’t want to carry a briefcase, or a shopping bag, but we want something functional and fashionable.

So I went hunting online, and finally came to Etsy. Once I got to Etsy, it wasn’t long until I stumbled upon Kinies. The great thing about Kinies was they included the dimensions of their bags – inside and out. Since I knew the size of my MacBook Air, I had a pretty good idea of what size I needed in a bag. I also knew that it needed to be wide as well as long – I had a great bag that was long enough, but once I put the MBA in, I struggled to get it out, and couldn’t fit much else in.

I figured for $50, I was willing to take the chance. After all, that’s what I’d pay for any other purse, so if it didn’t work out I’d still have another purse. I chose red, although they have a great range of colours including black, orange, and teal. It took about a week to get the bag from Malaysia via DHL. When it arrived, it seemed nothing special…but then I started filling it with my belongings: Macbook, iPhone, Flipcam, wallet, cables…and there was still room for more. I was delighted.

I especially like the way the flap closure hides a pocket. If you’re paranoid about pickpockets, this might not be the bag for you as the ends are still open enough to get a small hand in. Of course the ends aren’t big enough to pull out an iPad or a Macbook, and you could keep your wallet in the flap pocket. The only thing I would change is the small shoulder strap. I realize I have the mini (there is a larger size that should fit a 15″ laptop computer easily), but the shoulder strap is about 2″ too short for real comfort. I believe that you should be able to throw the bag over your shoulder with one hand, not have to place it there with the other hand. But it fits well, is comfortable, and doesn’t slip off your shoulder.

The adjustable messenger strap is wonderful. You can remove it, or leave it hanging. You can wear it cross body, or you can sling it over one shoulder and let your bag hang at your hip. Since the bag is canvas, it conforms to your hip when carried this way, and doesn’t bound around the way some leather bags do.

I will probably be getting another Kinies Classic Mini so that I can change colours – and take the red one into the dry cleaner eventually. So if you’re like me and you have a lot of gadgets to carry around – this is the bag in which to carry them…and look stylish doing it!

I’ve been considering getting one of these bags, but I want to know–is it durable? Do you think it will last?

I have used it non-stop since it arrived FedEx. And I lug a TON of stuff (Macbook, tablet, iPhone, various charging cords, etc.). If the weight of that hasn’t broken or snapped something by now, it isn’t going to. Still looks great.

Well, I think that means I might be sold on it.

Best bag I’ve ever owned. I’m still planning on getting a second one just in case I want to wash this one eventually. (That’d be a good thing, right?) ;)
