DirecTV has made it easier to find and record a tv show from your cell phone than from your television. I’m sure the original intent of this app was for those moments you find yourself away from the tv and suddenly remember you forgot to set something to record. But they’ve given us something so much better!

As you can see from the above screen shots, the DirecTV app for iPhone and the one for WebOS are very similar. There may be one or two features available on one platform that is not available on the other, but overall they are identical.

Both apps allow you to quickly and easily search for a show by title, date, or channel. Why anyone would ever browse a show using the klunky interface DirecTV offers on the tv, I can’t imagine. Even when I’m sitting in front of the tv now, if I see a preview for something I want to record, I don’t grab my expensive Logitech Harmony remote control – I grab a phone!

This is a must-have app if you have either an iPhone or Palm (Pre or Pixi). Thank you, DirecTV, for giving it to us for free!
