YouMail just got better

Back in May of 2008, I wrote a little review of YouMail after talking with Alex Quilici at CTIA. (See my video interview here.) While I have mostly gotten over the amusement of having 27 personal greetings, I still think that YouMail is one of the greatest free services out there for cell phone users.

Quick feature rundown:

  • See a list of your messages and scroll and listen to voicemail on your phone, online or email
  • Save your voicemails forever and share with anyone
  • Greet callers by name or assign different greetings to different callers
  • Block unknown and unwanted callers

Never waste another call for voicemail again. Never lose another voicemail. Have them emailed to you. YouMail also does voice transcription, in case you don’t want to listen to your voicemail at all. They have a wide variety of pricing levels, from my 5 free/month, to a corporate “Read it Unlimited” which can be purchased monthly for $39.99/month, or for the year at a savings of 6% at $29.89/month.

Using YouMail is easy, but if you go back and read my original review, you’ll see that my major complaint was not so much with YouMail, but with Sprint (of course). Well Sprint has removed those pesky per minute call forwarding charges, and no longer requires technical support to enable call forwarding. About time Sprint did something right!

YouMail now has apps for Blackberry, Android, and iPhone. I guess we’ll see something soon for WebOS now that Sprint is allowing free call forwarding. Highly recommended!

    A clarification.

Per Sprint’s official announcements, they are opening up conditional call forwarding (letting you set it on the handset, and not charging for it), but it looks like it’ll be mid-month before that’s officially released to all Sprint customers – even if YouMail jumped the gun with an early and somewhat confusing e-mail to our base.

YouMail will let their customers know when it’s officially available to everyone.

    Hope this helps your readers.
