Derek Simmerman told us last week about how much he loved his new Palm Pre. Since he was with us, he returned his 3rd Pre and decided to take a chance on something else due to too many hardware issues.
What influences us in our mobile carrier choices today? Do we chose a carrier based on price? Coverage? Device?
What I miss about WM/ iPhone Counter Point
What I don’t miss about WM
Informational Lock Screen (aka S2U2, WM6.5)(You miss the application that does this? There’s an iPhone app that does this too. We could have a whole separate list just for apps.)
Full Featured (timed) Trial applications / "Lite Versions"
Hourly resets
Hacks and tweaks / If it works great, don’t futz with it!, Can cause instability
Active Stink/iTunes
Basic multitasking / Besides Internet Radio, what else do u really need?
Spinning Beach Ball – Lag, Lag, Lag
Integrated tasks and calendar!
OS Update Process
True calendar alerts, not sms! / Native Calendar supports alarms or PI -> Google Cal -> Exchange
Managing .cabs and install .exe’s
Push email and custom email alert / Exchange, Mobile Me and Yahoo (free) Baby!
Crappy or non-existent Media Sync/inability to use iPhone as a true media device – external drive – cannot add/remove single file
Custom sms alert
Application updates
Ability to add 1 mp3 without performing sync / You have to connect your device even to get the single mp3 over so what’s the big deal if iTunes sync’s one song? Buy on the iPhone and the song get’s automatically transferred to your computer! P.S. 3GS sync is lightning fast!/One mp3 I can drag/drop quickly without first importing it to iTunes which takes another step. / If you pile all music into a single folder without organization you still need to navigate to the folder. If you organize music, you need to create folders, etc.
Start Menu, "x" button – In any way, shape, or form!/going back to the home screen for everything – no shortcuts
Installing any app any time (think Google Voice)
App Interface inconsistencies
Simple beta testing / See stability and Hacks and Tweaks/beta testing is by nature unstable, stability is not the issue.
Pinpoint accuracy of touch / iPhone screen incredibly accurate, almost to a fault/then why do I not tap the correct jewel in Bejeweled at least once per level? It is not pinpoint accurate – that’s a mathematical fact that cannot be disputed.
