While I was very happy with my Treo 800w from day one, the one thing I’ve missed has been the ability to watch my Slingbox. So along with about 65 other dedicated volunteers, I’ve been secretly testing Sling Media’s new player for Windows Mobile Professional. It has been difficult keeping the secret while following all the complaints both on Sling’s own forums, and the forums at Treo Central. The nurturer in me wanted to reach out and tell everyone that it would be ok, and that they would have their new player very soon!

So what’s new in version 1.6? Mostly, it supports 320×320, so those of us with the Palm Treo 800w, Palm Treo Pro, Samsung Saga (aka i770), and Samsung Epix can finally watch our Slingboxes from our mobiles again. Other supported devices include the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, HTC Touch Diamond, HP iPAQ 910, HTC Touch Pro, AT&T Fuze, Samsung Omnia (aka i910), and LG Incite (aka CT810).

Another major update is that when you install the executable (rather than the .cab file), your Slingboxes are installed to your device. No need to fumble with finder id’s. Unfortunately, this feature continues to elude me, although it seems the majority of other beta testers have been very happy with it. I don’t know if it’s my Vista Home Premium 64 bit, or my Treo 800w…but despite having two Slingboxes showing on my desktop, there’s only one listed on my Treo.

According to sources at Sling, they will be releasing a major revision in 2009. The revision will do away with this sync system completely as it will integrate Sling Accounts into SPM.

I love Slinging!
